Tech Tycoon: Eco Edition

Tech Tycoon: Eco Edition is a card game that builds upon the original Tech Tycoon game inspired by Monopoly Deal. In this game, players compete to build their tech companies but with the responsibility of sustainable practices. As a CEO, you face the challenge of growing your company and dominating Silicon Valley, while maintaining a low environmental impact. This game encourages strategic thinking and awareness of ecological issues, as players briefly learn about sustainable business practices and their impact on the environment.

Objective

Become the leading tech company by building 3 complete sets of Division cards, while minimizing your ecological footprint. Players must balance their eagerness to expand their company with sustainable development to win.

Setup

1. Each player starts with a unique Company Card that is placed in front of them to represent their company.
2. Shuffle all the other cards and deal each player 5.
3. Put the remaining cards at the center as a draw deck, along with the Carbon Footprint pieces.

Components

All cards have a monetary value and carbon footprint value of varying amounts, except for the Climate Event Cards. 

• Company Cards: Each player's starting card depicting their unique company.
• Division Cards: Representing different divisions within your company.  The card has a color and indicates how much more of the same color Division card is needed to complete that specific set. 
• Revenue Cards: Cards in the player's hand or bank that can be used to buy company division cards from other players. 
• Action Cards: Used to disrupt opponents or advance your position.
• Sustainability Cards: Implement eco-friendly practices to your sets to reduce your Carbon Footprint.
• Climate Event Cards: Climate events that impact all players by making them sacrifice one card from each Division set.
• Carbon Footprint : Foot-shaped pieces gathered to track your environmental impact.

Action Cards

• Poach: Take a card from another player’s Division set to poach their employees.
• Corporate Spy: Look at another player's hand and steal a card of your choice.
• Market Disruption: Force all players to discard their hand and draw the same number of cards from the draw pile. The discarded cards will not go the bank but can be reused if the draw pile is empty.
• Tech Innovation: Play two additional cards, this turn to boost your progress.
• Public Relations: Protect yourself from any action card or cancel an action card played against you.
• Investor: Draw 2 extra cards.

Gameplay

• Draw two cards from the deck at the start of your turn.
• Discard cards to the Bank (to the side) or make at least 2 moves, if your hand exceeds 7 cards to keep the amount of cards to a maximum of 5.
• Play up to 3 cards to expand your company and execute sustainable strategies. With every action made to build the company, players must collect Carbon Footprint pieces, with each specific amount indicated on Division and Action cards played. These pieces are used to keep track of your company's environmental impact.
• High environmental impacts can be avoided or reduced by adding Sustainability cards to your sets. Each Division card indicates how many Sustainability cards are needed for the set to be considered eco-friendly. Based on the value on the card, players discard a certain number of pieces from their Carbon Footprint pile.
• When a player draws 2 cards and receives a Climate Event card, it must be directly placed in the middle of all the players and means that they must sacrifice one card from each set of Division cards. They all place those cards on top of the Climate Event card and is then discarded. This card does not count as one of the player's 2 actions, during gameplay but also means that they only receive 1 card instead of 2 as the Climate Event card gets discarded.

Winning

The first player to build 3 complete company Division sets, with the lowest Carbon Footprint wins. If a player completes 3 sets, but has a Carbon Footprint that is greater than other players, the player must remain in the game and will not win until it is achieved.
