Web of Lies is a social storytelling game – inspired by the Broken Telephone game –that puts your creative, listening and memory skills to work and into a humorous experience. This game is most suitable for gatherings of friends or family, challenging players to weave a progressive web of intentional lies. Even though each player try their best to relay the It is about seeing how far the players can twist the initial lie to create a spontaneous statement or story. If players don't listen carefully or have trouble remembering specific words, the group of sentences will consequently become even further distorted.
Number of Players
- Must be played with 4 - 12 players
- Ideal amount would be 6 players
Materials
- Paper and pencil
- Audio recorder
Setup
- Players sit in a circle.
- Order of players is clockwise.
- First player can be chosen at random.
Gameplay
- The first player starts by writing a lie on a piece of paper and folding it so that it remains hidden.
- The player whispers the lie once to the person on their left.
- The next player repeats the same action, after receiving the folded paper, adding to the lie and building the story.
- The story continues to pass around the circle until it has reached the last player.
- The last player must voice record their attempt to repeat all the lies in the correct order.
- The paper with each person's accurate sentence will be revealed to all players and compared to the recording for fun and as a keepsake.
Variations
- Themes: Each round can have a specific theme decided by the group, that the lies must be centered around or related to.
- Length Limit: Set a limit to the length of each addition, making it longer or shorter on each turn.
- Time Limit: Use a timer to limit each turn for 30 - 60 seconds
